According to media reports, after a two-year sluggish cycle, MLCC began to usher in a relatively mild recovery, and total shipments from related manufacturers increased by 5.4% in the second quarter. In a situation where consumer electronics are picking up and demand for AI servers etc. is rising, the net revenue and profit of related companies have risen, and the operating rate of production lines has clearly picked up.
MLCC, or multilayer ceramic capacitor, is one of the most used components in the electronics industry, and is commonly known as “rice in the electronics industry.” MLCC manufacturer Murata recently claimed that AI is driving MLCC demand. The company's president, Keiju Nakajima, said that the MLCC demand boom driven by AI will first begin with remote devices such as servers and edge computing, and that terminal devices such as AIPC and AI mobile phones will take over and explode next year. In addition, demand for MLCCs for smartphones is also gradually recovering, mainly due to the wave of mobile phone upgrades, and the US and South Korean manufacturers are strong in shipping. As demand surged, the capacity utilization rate of Murata's MLCC plant increased steadily to meet terminal demand. The capacity utilization rate was about 80% to 85% last quarter, and will rise to 85% to 90% this quarter.
