According to sources, Intel and the US government may finalize a $8.5 billion direct financing by the end of the year.

According to sources, Intel (INTC.US) and the US government may finalize an $8.5 billion direct financing by the end of the year, as reported by the CCT Finance APP.

Reports suggest that negotiations have entered the late stage, but there is no guarantee of completion by the end of 2024. It is also mentioned that any acquisition of all or part of Intel's business could disrupt the negotiations.

Intel and the US Department of Commerce did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

It is understood that US President Biden provided Intel with nearly $20 billion in subsidies and loans in March this year to increase the company's semiconductor chip production in the US.

The preliminary agreement is to provide Intel with $8.5 billion in subsidies and up to $11 billion in loans in Arizona, with some funds earmarked for building two new factories and modernizing existing ones.

Earlier this month, reports indicated that Qualcomm (QCOM.US) had been in talks with Intel exploring the possibility of acquiring the troubled chip manufacturer. There are rumors that Broadcom (AVGO.US) had also assessed a potential bid for Intel, but sources state that Broadcom has not evaluated making a bid for Intel.

There are also reports that Arm (ARM.US) is interested in acquiring the product division of Intel, however, this proposal has been rejected by the latter.

Intel used to be a dominant force in the chip manufacturing sector, but later yielded its manufacturing advantage to the competitor Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US), and failed to produce popular chips to meet the artificial intelligence trend utilized by Nvidia (NVDA.US) and AMD (AMD.US).
