Insiders At LPL Financial Holdings Sold US$3.5m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 30 08:38

The fact that multiple LPL Financial Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:LPLA) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

LPL Financial Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the MD and Chief Technology & Information Officer, Greg Gates, for US$3.0m worth of shares, at about US$268 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$231. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In the last year LPL Financial Holdings insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
