At the closing time on the 1st, the number of stocks that rose in the Nikkei average constituent stocks was 178, down 41, and unchanged 6.

The U.S. stock market rose on September 30th. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at $42,330.15, up 17.15 points (+0.04%), while the Nasdaq rose 69.58 points (+0.38%) to 18,189.17, and the S&P 500 ended trading at 5,762.48, up 24.31 points (+0.42%). The unexpected improvement in the September Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index led to dominant buying sentiment. However, Chairman Powell of the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) hinted at a slight rate cut pace, causing a temporary shift to significant selling due to disappointment. Nasdaq was unnerved by the rise in long-term interest rates but Apple's gains provided support, helping the market recover to positive territory towards the end. Month-end, combined with optimistic views from the chairman amidst adjustments at the end of the quarter, fueled buying expectations for a soft landing, pushing the Dow higher and setting new record highs daily.

In response to the rise of US stocks, the Tokyo market started trading with a bias towards buying. The Nikkei average, which recovered from the 38,000 yen range from the opening due to the rebound from the significant decline the previous day, slowly expanded its gains. In the morning, the early rate hike speculation receded following the main opinions of the Bank of Japan's monetary policy decision-making meeting announced by the Bank of Japan, causing the yen to weaken and the dollar to strengthen temporarily to the 144 yen level, leading to a dominant buyback of large cap stocks. The Nikkei average also showed signs of a further rise in the afternoon session, maintaining a steady trend.

The Nikkei average at the closing was 38,651.97 yen, up 732.42 yen (+1.93%) from the previous day. TSE
