Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that Oracle's decision to invest in Malaysia reflects the global company's strong confidence and commitment to the country's potential as a key gateway for cloud infrastructure, while also supporting the regional growth of artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystems.
Earlier today, Oracle clarified that its upcoming public cloud centre in Malaysia will enable customers and partners to utilise AI infrastructure and services, allowing for the transfer of critical workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The centre is expected to help local organisations modernise their operations, migrate workloads to the cloud, and innovate using data, analytics, and AI.
Anwar, who also holds the role of Finance Minister, welcomed Oracle's announcement of its first public cloud centre in Malaysia, with a significant investment of US$6.5 billion (RM27 billion). He made this announcement through a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
In addition to Oracle's commitment, the Prime Minister emphasised that the Government's strategic cooperation and clear policies under the MADANI framework have attracted major global technology companies like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Google. Collectively, these projects amount to a cumulative investment of US$16.9 billion (RM70.3 billion).
Anwar highlighted the importance of local companies and workers capitalising on the opportunities brought by these investments, stressing the long-term advantages for Malaysia. He mentioned the significance of fostering centres of excellence, AI faculties, and empowering communities.
"I am confident, with the support of all parties, that the goals and targets of the MADANI Economy will be realised, God willing," Anwar concluded.
