The new fuel test engine facility has started operation.

Nippon Yusen ·  Oct 7 11:00

It is possible to shorten the test period from 2 years to 3 months and also achieve significant cost reduction.

On October 1st, our company started the operation of a test engine facility for evaluating the safety of new fuels installed in Chiba Prefecture (hereinafter referred to as the 'test engine'.
In order to continue using new fuels for ships, activities such as testing, analysis, and trial operation in external engine facilities traditionally required a test period of about 2 years. However, in order to respond to increasing demand for new fuels such as biofuels in response to environmental regulations and policies of each country, reducing this period and the cost of testing became crucial. Our company aims to achieve practical use within a 3-month test period by conducting stress tests on our test engine, eliminating the need for trial operation.
By leveraging the engine operation and fuel oil analysis technologies held by our group companies Voltec Corporation and Nippon Oil Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., our company will verify the potential of various new fuels, accelerate the practical use of marine fuels, and promote the commercialization of new fuels.
