Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By Runjian Co., Ltd.'s (SZSE:002929) Earnings Despite 41% Price Jump

投資家は、41%の株価上昇にもかかわらず、潤建株式会社(SZSE:002929)の収益に完全に納得していません

Runjian Co., Ltd. (SZSE:002929) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 41% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 12% over that time.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Runjian's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 24.8x might still make it look like a buy right now compared to the market in China, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 34x and even P/E's above 64x are quite common. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/E.

Recent times haven't been advantageous for Runjian as its earnings have been falling quicker than most other companies. It seems that many are expecting the dismal earnings performance to persist, which has repressed the P/E. You'd much rather the company wasn't bleeding earnings if you still believe in the business. If not, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

How Is Runjian's Growth Trending?

Runjian's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the market.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 31% decrease to the company's bottom line. This means it has also seen a slide in earnings over the longer-term as EPS is down 1.8% in total over the last three years. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of earnings growth.

Looking ahead now, EPS is anticipated to climb by 20% per annum during the coming three years according to the four analysts following the company. With the market predicted to deliver 19% growth each year, the company is positioned for a comparable earnings result.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Runjian's P/E sits below the majority of other companies. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can achieve future growth expectations.

The Bottom Line On Runjian's P/E

The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift Runjian's P/E close to the market median. We'd say the price-to-earnings ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

Our examination of Runjian's analyst forecasts revealed that its market-matching earnings outlook isn't contributing to its P/E as much as we would have predicted. There could be some unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching the outlook. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued, but investors seem to think future earnings could see some volatility.
