Over the past year, many Helmerich & Payne, Inc. (NYSE:HP) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Helmerich & Payne Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Senior Advisor, Mark Smith, sold US$648k worth of shares at a price of US$40.49 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$34.56. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.
