Shiseido's global luxury brand "Clé de Peau Beauté" has selected Sachiko Nakajima as the winner of the 2025 "Power of Radiance Award." This award recognizes women who have contributed to STEM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) education annually and supports their activities through donations*1. Based on Clé de Peau Beauté's belief that the key to a better world lies in bringing out women's potential through education, Ms. Nakajima, who won the first gold medal for a Japanese woman at the International Mathematical Olympiad while in high school, has gained attention in the STEM field. As a jazz pianist, she currently leads the international and interactive band "KURAGE BAND ~ Gokan Kyosou VIDA, that enjoys STEAM experiences. Combining her experiences in the STEM and arts fields, she established the company SteAm in 2017 with the aim of unleashing the creative potential of all individuals through STEAM education.
According to the World Economic Forum's "Global Gender Gap Report 2024," Japan ranks 118th out of 146 countries in gender equality, with significant disparities, especially in the STEM*2 fields. Despite Japan being one of the world's leading economic powers and having outstanding performance by female students in mathematics and science globally, the percentage of women in STEM field graduates is only 16%*3. Ms. Nakajima's efforts aim to eliminate the old barriers that have hindered women from pursuing STEM education and careers, working towards closing the gender gap.
Ms. Nakajima's activities include "STEM ConnectHER" at the Asia Foundation. This initiative aims to establish a community platform connecting women in STEM fields across Asia, providing mentorship and support to university students and experts. Furthermore, Ms. Nakajima actively organizes workshops to introduce the fun of mathematics to girls and their mothers, and has been involved in the program "Suuri Joshu"*4, creating online content. This initiative not only presents role models of female researchers, especially in the field of mathematics within the STEM sector, but also aims to dispel stereotypes by holding experiential math workshops and talk events led by female mathematicians, making mathematics more relatable and enjoyable for young women.

Comment from Sachiko Nakajima:
"It is an honor to receive the 'Power of Radiance Award' from Cle de Peau Beaute. Cle de Peau Beaute has been advocating for the importance of girls' STEAM education worldwide and working to eliminate gender gaps. While there is still a tendency for more men in the STEAM field in terms of education and career development, gender does not matter in terms of creativity and innovation. I believe that gender equality in this field is beneficial and essential for society."
Comment from Mietsuki Hashimoto, Chief Brand Officer of Cle de Peau Beaute:
"Since 2019, the 'Power of Radiance Award' has been honoring women leading positive change worldwide through education. I am delighted that through collaboration with 2025 winner Ms. Nakajima and the company steAm, we can further deepen our efforts for gender equality and empowerment of girls."
Clé de Peau Beauté held an event on October 2, 2024, to commemorate International Girls' Day. Ms. Nakajima, winner of the 'Power of Radiance Award 2024,' participated with Reshma Saujani, founder of NPO organizations Girls Who Code and Moms First, discussing how women can support each other in empowering the next generation of women in the STEAM field. As the 2025 recipient of the "Power of Radiance Award," Ms. Nakajima will continue the efforts and achievements of previous winners, including Ms. Saujani.
