The US stock market rebounded. The Dow Jones rose by 409.74 points to 42,863.86 dollars, while the Nasdaq closed up 60.89 points at 18,342.94.
Banks reacted positively to the good earnings, opening higher. The Producer Price Index (PPI) did not significantly change the trajectory of interest rate cuts for the year, and the initial reaction to lower interest rates also supported the market. Expectations for major company earnings also provided buying support, leading to a continued rise in the market. The Dow hit a new record high and closed higher. In terms of sectors, banks and transportation rose, while automobiles and auto parts fell.
J.P. Morgan (JPM) from the banking sector unexpectedly saw an increase in net interest income in the third quarter earnings, surpassing expectations, and investment banking fees also exceeded forecasts, resulting in an increase. Similarly, Wells Fargo (WFC) in the same industry saw an increase in investment banking revenue in third-quarter earnings, offsetting the decline in lending income, surpassing profit per share expectations, and rising. Social media company Meta Platforms (META), which operates Facebook (FB), rose following an analyst's target price upgrade.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla (TSLA) unveiled a prototype of its Robo-taxi, 'Cyber Cab,' at an event but the lack of details that analysts were expecting led to a significant disappointment and a sharp decline in stock price. Competitors like the ride-sharing services Uber Technologies (UBER) and Lyft (LYFT) each saw an increase.
Chicago Fed President Goolsbee stated that he expects further interest rate cuts.
