BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Yuan Plus in Madagascar, further expanding its African footprint.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker officially rolled out the model, known locally as the Atto 3, at an event in Madagascar's capital Antananarivo on October 9 with dealer partner CFAO, according to an announcement yesterday.

The Yuan Plus is BYD's first all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model built for the global market, and is available in multiple overseas markets under the Atto 3 name.

The model was first launched in China in February 2022, and is the first SUV to be built on BYD's all-electric e-platform 3.0.

The launch of the Yuan Plus in Madagascar marks BYD's further expansion in the African market, the company said.

To date, BYD has entered 12 countries and regions in Africa, it said.

BYD will next work with its partners to bring more diversified NEV mobility options to African consumers, it said.

The Yuan Plus currently on sale in China is the Glory Edition, which was launched on March 4 this year at a starting price of RMB 119,800 ($16,930).

In Africa, BYD brought the Yuan Plus to Rwanda in January and the model to Tunisia in July.

BYD sold 419,426 NEVs in September, up 45.91 percent year-on-year and up 12.42 percent from August, according to data it released on October 1.

In September, BYD sold 33,012 NEVs in overseas markets, up 17.74 percent year-on-year and up 4.96 percent from August.

The BYD Yuan family sold 45,618 units in September, up 38.84 percent year-on-year and up 8.15 percent from August.
