Swedish lm ericsson telephone announced on Tuesday that both core profit and sales in the third quarter exceeded expectations, benefiting from the rebound in demand for 5G equipment in North America. The company stated that the telecommunications equipment market is showing signs of improvement.

The company's stock price surged 9% in early trading, reaching its highest level since April 2022.

In the past two years, the decline in demand from North American mobile operators has hit lm ericsson, nokia oyj, and other companies, forcing them to seek growth in emerging markets like India, often at the cost of sacrificing profits.

lm ericsson's net sales in the third quarter decreased by 4% to 61.8 billion Swedish kronor (5.92 billion US dollars), but exceeded the expected 61.6 billion US dollars. Basic sales decreased by 1%.

Danske Bank credit research analyst Mads Lindegaard Rosendal said: "Net sales only decreased by 'just' 1% year-on-year, showing a significant improvement compared to the 7% decline in the second quarter."

Sales in North America grew by over 50%, reaching 20.4 billion kronor. One of the reasons for the growth in the North American market is that following last year's 14 billion US dollar five-year agreement with AT&T, the company's sales to AT&T have continued to rise.

India was a bright spot last year, but now it has clearly slowed down.
