Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will hold this year's tech day event on November 6, changing its practice of holding the event on October 24 every year over the past five years.

Xpeng 1024 tech day has officially been upgraded to Xpeng AI Day, and this year's event will be held at the South China University of Technology on November 6, He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, announced today on Weibo.

Mr. He, a graduate of the Guangzhou-based university, said he will then share Xpeng's latest advances and breakthroughs in the fields of AI cars, AI robots and flying cars.

Xpeng held its first 1024 tech day event on October 24, 2019, and has since set October 24 as a regular date for holding that event.

At the event last year, Xpeng announced its XNGP (Xpeng navigation guided pilot) roadmap, a new flying car, and a bipedal robot.

The company chose the date because 1024 is the 10th power of 2, which has special significance in the field of computing, and thus October 24 is also regarded as Programmer's Day in China.

"1024, this number has a special meaning for Xpeng users. We are a group of people who love technology," Mr. He wrote on Weibo today.

Standing at the start of a new decade, Xpeng is committed to becoming a globally-focused AI car company, he said, adding that this year, for the first time, Xpeng will be geared towards global tech enthusiasts, joining supporters around the world to experience the magic of technology.

Adjusting the date of the annual event from fixed to variable may be necessary for Xpeng.

This October has been a busy one for Xpeng, causing it to become less realistic in continuing to hold tech day on October 24.

The EV maker unveiled its new model, the P7+, at an event in Shenzhen on October 10, and announced at the Paris auto show on October 14 that the model began pre-sales in China. Executives, including Mr. He, attended the Paris auto show.

On October 22, Xpeng announced the launch of two SUV (sport utility vehicle) models, the G6 and G9, in Dubai with UAE partner Ali & Sons Holding LLC.

Xpeng's local counterpart, Nio (NYSE: NIO), has an annual event called Nio Day, which is held on date selected through a voting process by the Nio community.

Nio Day 2024 will be held in Guangzhou, a July vote showed. Earlier this month, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said Nio Day 2024 will be held in Guangzhou on December 21, where the Firefly sub-brand will be unveiled, according to a local media report.
