Investors in Fujian Forecam Optics (SHSE:688010) From Five Years Ago Are Still Down 40%, Even After 41% Gain This Past Week

Simply Wall St ·  Oct 30 20:13

It is a pleasure to report that the Fujian Forecam Optics Co., Ltd. (SHSE:688010) is up 67% in the last quarter. But if you look at the last five years the returns have not been good. In fact, the share price is down 41%, which falls well short of the return you could get by buying an index fund.

While the last five years has been tough for Fujian Forecam Optics shareholders, this past week has shown signs of promise. So let's look at the longer term fundamentals and see if they've been the driver of the negative returns.

Given that Fujian Forecam Optics didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

In the last half decade, Fujian Forecam Optics saw its revenue increase by 2.6% per year. That's not a very high growth rate considering it doesn't make profits. Given the weak growth, the share price fall of 7% isn't particularly surprising. Investors should consider how bad the losses are, and whether the company can make it to profitability with ease. It could be worth putting it on your watchlist and revisiting when it makes its maiden profit.

A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that Fujian Forecam Optics shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 21% over the last year. That certainly beats the loss of about 7% per year over the last half decade. This makes us a little wary, but the business might have turned around its fortunes. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Even so, be aware that Fujian Forecam Optics is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those makes us a bit uncomfortable...
