Xpeng Chairman He Xiaopeng shared the latest developments of the company in the three major sectors of AI autos, AI robots, and flying autos.
Caixin News November 6th (Reporter Xu Hao) The "AI Technology Day", which came from an upgrade of the already held six sessions of "1024 Technology Day", has become another turning point for He Xiaopeng and his Xpeng autos. "Starting this year, Xpeng autos have explicitly defined the development direction for the next ten years, that is to become a global AI autos company." On November 6th, Xpeng Chairman He Xiaopeng shared the latest developments of the company in the AI autos, AI robots, and flying autos sectors.
"In the current new energy autos market, each manufacturer has unique labels and positioning. However, for Xpeng autos, the core labels are 'technology-driven' and 'leading in smart driving.'" He Xiaopeng stated that Xpeng autos may be one of the domestic autos companies that values AI technology the most and one of the earliest to achieve mass production of large models domestically.
One of the scenarios where He Xiaopeng considers empowered by AI is the "Xpeng Kunpeng Super Electric System," which is one of the manifestations of Xpeng becoming more AI-oriented. This extended range system is based on the universal 800V high-voltage silicon carbide platform, equipped with a 5C ultra-fast AI battery, a hybrid silicon carbide coaxial electric drive, a silent extender, as well as AI battery doctor and AI power functions. For example, for AI battery doctor, to delay battery performance degradation, Xpeng equips each battery with a dedicated 'battery management chip,' which can effectively increase battery life by 30%. At the same time, with AI empowerment, the Xpeng Kunpeng super electric system is more intelligent in switching between pure electric and extended range.
Based on this series of technologies, the Xpeng Kunpeng super electric system has a pure electric range of 430km, a comprehensive range of over 1400km, and achieves 93.5% CLTC efficiency through the application of a new coaxial hybrid silicon carbide electric drive. In terms of recharging, the Xpeng Kunpeng super electric system can charge in 12 minutes from 10% to 80% capacity.
Not only in the power system, in the smart driving aspect, Xpeng autos have introduced the Xpeng Turing AI smart driving system, including cloud-based large models, on-vehicle large models, AI chips developed for large models, and underlying architecture developed for large models. According to the plan, by 2025, Xpeng's cloud-based computing power will reach 10Eflops.
At the recent Xpeng P7+ AI Smart Driving Technology Sharing Conference, Xpeng autos provided a clear smart driving schedule - by the third quarter of 2025, Xpeng's end-to-end large model will achieve intelligent assisted driving similar to L3, with less than 1 takeover per 100 kilometers; by 2026, achieve level L4 for some low-speed scenarios, where driving without a person in the driver's seat.
"Xpeng's steer-by-wire system can eliminate the need for a steering wheel, changing it from a mandatory to optional component, allowing users to hide or use it as needed. At the same time, L4 will develop the Ultra model, which will be developed globally for ROBOTAXI services." Based on the Turing AI smart driving system, He Xiaopeng envisions more advanced autonomous driving scenarios.
Xpeng has expanded the application of AI to low-altitude flight and the field of AI robots. Among them, the world's first mass-produced split-type flying car developed by Xpeng Huitian will have its global public maiden flight on the opening day of the China Air Show on November 12, with official pre-sales starting in December. Xpeng Huitian also plans to launch an integrated flying car, the "Xpeng Huitian High-Speed Long-Range Aircraft", designed with 6 flight cabins, using a hybrid energy power system, with a maximum aerial endurance of up to 500 kilometers and a cruising speed of 360 km/h. In addition, Xpeng's AI robot Iron has already entered the factory for work.
In addition to algorithms, all of this cannot be achieved without the support of hardware. It was revealed that Xpeng's self-developed Turing AI chip successfully ran the latest version of intelligent driving functions in October this year. Xpeng's Turing AI chip is customized for large AI models, integrating 2 self-developed neural network processing brains (NPU), 2 independent image signal processors (ISP), and using a domain-specific architecture for neural networks (DSA). The intelligent cabin system architecture Xpeng Tianji AIOS will be based on the Turing AI chip, driven by 2 chips simultaneously.
In August this year, Xpeng Motors officially announced its upgrade to "Xpeng AI Automotive Company". He Xiaopeng explicitly stated, "In the next decade, Xpeng will focus on the combination of AI technology and large-scale manufacturing, aiming to become a leader in AI automotive companies." Starting from August, Xpeng Motors' stock price on the US stock market soared from the previous $6-7 to a high of $13.7. With Xpeng Motors completing over 0.02 million deliveries for two consecutive months in September and October, it is obvious that the capital markets are more patient in waiting for the growth of Xpeng AI.
