Insiders At Archer Aviation Sold US$943k Of Stock Potentially Indicating Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 10, 2024 22:46

Despite the fact that Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) stock rose 19% last week, insiders who sold US$943k worth of stock in the previous 12 months are likely to be better off. Selling at an average price of US$5.90, which is higher than the current price might have been the right call as holding on to stock would have meant their investment would be worth less now than it was at the time of sale.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Archer Aviation

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Marc Lore, sold US$943k worth of shares at a price of US$5.90 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$3.89. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Marc Lore was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Archer Aviation insiders own 18% of the company, currently worth about US$303m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Archer Aviation Insiders?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Archer Aviation shares in the last quarter. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Archer Aviation insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Our analysis shows 3 warning signs for Archer Aviation (1 is a bit concerning!) and we strongly recommend you look at these before investing.
