EV giant Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 2,431 Cybertrucks in the U.S. over concerns that there may be a loss of drive power to the wheels, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Wednesday.

What Happened: A fault in the drive inverter may cause a loss of drive power to the wheels in Cybertrucks manufactured between Nov. 6, 2023, and July end, increasing the risk of collisions, the U.S. auto safety regulator said.

Tesla became aware of the issue after a customer complained in July that the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion. The company subsequently investigated the condition and decided to issue a voluntary recall, the NHTSA said.

While the company is not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries owing to the issue, it has identified five warranty claims that may be related to the condition, the regulator said.

As for a solution, the company's service centers will replace the drive inverter at no cost to the customer starting from or soon after Dec. 9.

Why It Matters: In October, Tesla recalled 27,185 Cybertrucks due to a delay in the rearview camera image when shifting into reverse. The company fixed the issue with an over-the-air software remedy.

A few months before that, Tesla recalled 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles over concerns of unintentional acceleration.

The Cybertruck is the latest vehicle offering from Tesla. The company made the first Cybertruck deliveries late in November 2023 to customers in the U.S.

Since then, the company has also started delivering the vehicle to customers from Mexico and Canada. Cybertruck production achieved a positive gross margin for the first time in the third quarter.
