BYD Launches Song Pro in Chile, Shark Pickup Makes Local Debut

The Song Pro DM-i is the 10th model BYD has launched in Chile. The BYD Shark will be launched in Chile in the first quarter of 2025.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the hybrid Song Pro DM-i in Chile, expanding its offering in the South American country to 10 models.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Song Pro DM-i at the third Experience E event held in Chile from November 7 to November 10, according to an announcement today.

The compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) is available in Chile in three color options with a starting price of 31,990,000 Chilean pesos ($32,690).

The Song Pro DM-i is powered by BYD's super hybrid system, which has an NEDC battery range of up to 100 kilometers and a combined WLTC range of 1,011 kilometers, it said.

The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.9 seconds and features BYD's DiPilot intelligent driver assistance system.

The second-generation Song Pro DM-i, which is currently on sale in China, was released on September 23 and features BYD's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology, with a starting price of RMB 112,800 ($15,580).

BYD also made the local debut in Chile of the Shark hybrid pickup truck, which was first launched in Mexico in May this year.

The BYD Shark will be launched in Chile in the first quarter of 2025, according to Cristián Garcés, brand manager of Chilean dealer Astara Group.

The hybrid pickup has a combined NEDC range of up to 840 kilometers and can travel up to 100 kilometers on battery power. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Apart from the Song Pro DM-i and Shark, BYD also showcased the Song Plus DM-i, Yuan Up at the Experience E event.

The Yuan Up went on sale in China on March 26 of this year and was launched in Chile in early August.

BYD sold 502,657 NEVs in October, up 66.53 percent year-on-year and up 19.84 percent from September, according to data it released on November 1.

BYD sold 31,192 NEVs in overseas markets in October, bringing January-October sales to 329,073 units.
