Oji Holdings Corporation (President: Hiroyuki isono, Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) and its group company, Oji Industrial Materials Management Co., Ltd. (President: Akio Hasebe, Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo), are pleased to announce the start of sales of a new total heat exchange element utilizing wood-derived CNF (cellulose nano fiber) as a component for total heat exchange ventilation systems.
In recent years, due to the increased awareness of IAQ (indoor air quality) and energy conservation, the demand for total heat exchange ventilation systems has been expanding. The newly developed total heat exchange element responds to these needs by using phosphate-esterified CNF, produced by the Oji Group from wood materials, achieving improved IAQ through high airtightness and enhancing energy conservation via increased total heat exchange efficiency.
The element uses a new exchange membrane (liner) formed from the aforementioned CNF into an extremely thin film (breathable polymer membrane) using proprietary technology on top of a base film (substrate). It exchanges heat and moisture (sensible and latent heat) through this membrane. This breathable polymer membrane is incredibly dense, providing very high airtightness while being extremely thin, thus preventing the passage of CO₂ and polluted air. Additionally, taking advantage of the high hydrophilicity of CNF, it possesses significantly greater moisture permeability than conventional exchange membranes, and by being constructed into an extremely thin structure with the substrate, it achieves excellent total heat exchange efficiency. This enables the simultaneous realization of a pure indoor space and energy conservation (see figure below).

Furthermore, the element has been selected for use in total heat exchange ventilation systems for the North American market.
Our group will continue to develop and provide various air conditioning products tailored to customer needs, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
(*1) A component mainly used in high-efficiency ventilators, consisting of a core and liner stacked together. It recovers heat energy lost through ventilation, reducing the environmental burden on air conditioning equipment such as air conditioners.
(*2) A measurement and quantification of the gas component levels in the air inside a building, evaluated for air quality from health and comfort perspectives.
