Daiichi Axis <4245> announced on the 15th that its subsidiary, Daiichi Axis Sustainable Power, will supply biodiesel fuel "D・OiL" as the fuel for the "Meguro River Everyone's Illumination 2024."
The "Meguro River Everyone's Illumination" is an initiative started in 2010 aimed at realizing local production and consumption of energy, and the company group has been supplying "D・OiL" (eco-mark commodity etf) since 2022. The "D・OiL" supplied for this initiative is refined using used cooking oil collected from nearby restaurants and is used as the fuel for the illumination that decorates the cherry blossom trees along the Meguro River with LED lights during winter.
By recycling used cooking oil that is normally supposed to be discarded and repurposing it into biodiesel fuel (upcycling), the "Meguro River Everyone's Illumination" achieves 100% local production and consumption of energy, drawing attention both domestically and internationally.
A large amount of used cooking oil from households is disposed of without being reused, with some being discharged into rivers as wastewater, contributing to water and soil pollution. According to the company, "D・OiL" can effectively utilize limited resources by recycling used cooking oil, which also contributes to the preservation of water resources. Plant-based biofuels are considered to have zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions due to the concept of carbon neutrality, which also contributes to the creation of "environmental value" such as CO2 reduction.
