Velesto Energy Berhad, through its subsidiary Velesto Drilling Sdn Bhd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and National Oilwell Varco, L.P. (NOV) to implement mechanised rig automation and integrate robotics into drilling operations.
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework to leverage NOV's drilling automation system (NOVOS) and Energy Carbon Optimisation Solutions (ECOS), including robotics technology. The initiative aims to enhance operational performance, reduce emissions, and improve cost efficiency through advanced automation and digitalisation on Velesto-operated rigs.
President of Velesto, Megat Zariman Abdul Rahim, said, "We are honoured to collaborate with PETRONAS and NOV on this important initiative. This reflects our commitment to addressing our clients' needs through innovative solutions. We appreciate their trust and remain dedicated to delivering meaningful value to our clients and the broader industry."
Under the agreement, PETRONAS will provide guidance to align the deployment of NOVOS and robotics with its strategic goals. Velesto will oversee the integration and optimisation of the systems on its rigs, while NOV will offer technical support and training to facilitate local implementation and knowledge transfer.
This collaboration highlights a strategic focus on sustainable operational efficiency and local capability development, aligning with PETRONAS' sustainability goals and fostering technology adoption and advanced skills in the energy sector.
