SBS Holdings <2384> announced on the 19th that in collaboration with IAT and Yamato Mobility & Mfg. <7886>, they conducted a trial run of a used 1.5t truck converted to EV at their subsidiary SBS Driving School's Ashizaki Training Center.
The company aims to electrify around 1,000 vehicles by 2030. In order to reduce investment burdens by effectively utilizing used trucks after long-term use, their subsidiary SBS Zentzu is proceeding with an initiative to convert diesel trucks that have been used for a long period to EVs.
The company is conducting verification using a used Isuzu Elf 2t with IAT and Yamato Mobility & Mfg. This time, IAT and Yamato Mobility & Mfg. used a 2012 model "Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 1.5t loading (FBA00 type)" scheduled for scrapping and converted it to EV for testing performance and safety on the training course. By reducing CO2 emissions and realizing the reuse of used cars, they can deliver at low cost and in a short period. This initiative of converting small diesel trucks to EVs for mass production is the first of its kind in Japan.
In the future, they plan to obtain type approval using these planned mass-produced vehicles and conduct monitored runs on public roads with cargo loading. The company, under its policy of enhancing sustainability management, will continue to expand its EV ratio and contribute to reducing environmental impact.
