Amazon will increase its holdings in Anthropic, the developer of the generative AI software Claude, a competitor of OpenAI.
The cloud computing giant Amazon stated in a release on Friday that it would invest an additional 4 billion dollars in the San Francisco startup.
Prior to this, Amazon had already invested 4 billion dollars in Anthropic. The investment terms from earlier this year included Anthropic using Amazon Web Services (AWS) datacenters to meet some of its computing needs, as well as AI chips designed by AWS. Anthropic also has a close relationship with Alphabet's Google.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and has become one of the closest competitors to OpenAI. Its Claude series of chatbots is widely regarded as one of the most capable at generating text from scratch and possessing human-like reasoning abilities.
