This BlueLinx Holdings Insider Reduced Their Stake By 17%

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 23 08:47

Viewing insider transactions for BlueLinx Holdings Inc.'s (NYSE:BXC ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

BlueLinx Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Director, Mitchell Lewis, sold US$938k worth of shares at a price of US$119 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$128, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 17% of Mitchell Lewis's holding. Mitchell Lewis was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Mitchell Lewis ditched 13.31k shares over the year. The average price per share was US$117. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that BlueLinx Holdings insiders own 3.7% of the company, worth about US$38m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
