Midday: KLCI Surges 15 Points to 16

At midday, Kuala Lumpur stock exchange's benchmark composite index rose 14.90 points to 1,604.68 points, from from Friday's closing of 1,589.78 points.

During the half-day session, the key index at one point climbed to the high of 1,609.29 points, and traded with a range of 20.83 points.

This morning, the benchmark index rose 4.09 points during the opening session. As at 9:27am, the key index surged 6.28 points higher to 1,596.06 points.

CN Asia Corporation Bhd was the most actively traded counter as at 12:00pm, recording a turnover of over 45 million1 units/shares and traded at RM0.065. The Main board's industrial listing CN Asia is principally involved in the manufacturing and trading of tanks, vessels and tankers for oil & gas, chemical, and construction sectors.

As at 12:00pm, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) was the top gainer which advanced 22 sen to RM24.62 on a turnover of 32,700 units/shares, followed by Hong Leong Bank Bhd which added 20 sen to RM20.68 on a volume of 229,300 units/shares, and Maybank which also climbed 20 sen to RM10.40 on a volume of over 3.5 million2 units/shares.

YTL Corporation Bhd added 10 sen to RM1.87 on a volume of over 21.7 million3 units/shares as at 12:17pm. Meanwhile, YTL Power International Bhd recorded nearly 13.3 million4 units/shares, advancing 18 sen to RM3.08.

Banking counter CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose 11 sen to RM8.33 on a turnover of nearly 12.9 million5 units/shares.

On the decliners side, PPB Group Bhd gave up 18 sen to RM13.44 on a turnover of 241,200 units/shares as at 12:17pm, while United Plantations Bhd shed 14 sen to RM30.80 on a volume of 386,200 units/shares.
