Shimadzu Corporation will release the infection management support system 'ExpertTWIN' (hereinafter referred to as the system) that connects the attending physician who treats infectious disease patients on November 25th with an infectious disease specialist through the web. By providing an environment where attending physicians struggling with the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases can consult with specialists about individual patients, it reduces the burden on medical sites. The system, equipped with a web service and subscription (fixed-rate billing) mechanism to streamline consultation and complex contract/payment tasks between the parties, is the first in Japan.
Usually, attending physicians who are not specialists in infectious diseases seek advice from infectious disease specialists when it is difficult to determine the diagnosis and treatment plan for infectious diseases. However, the number of infectious disease specialists remains about half of the personnel required in medical settings, and they are burdened with inquiries from outside in addition to their usual duties. In addition, in the traditional consultation format using methods such as phone calls or emails, it was difficult to assess the workload and contributions of specialists. This system provides an environment where both parties can consult directly on individual patients, reducing the burden on the field. Furthermore, it is expected to shorten hospital stays by providing an environment for reducing medical expenses through appropriate use of antibiotics and continuous intervention in complex cases.
