Proposing low-carbon resource recycling through world-class recycled aluminum technology.

LIXIL Corporation (hereinafter referred to as LIXIL) participated for the first time as a panelist in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held from November 11 (Monday) to 22 (Friday), 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it introduced the recycling of aluminum aimed at achieving resource circulation and a decarbonized society.

■ LIXIL took the stage at the "Seminar on Decarbonization of Buildings" within the COP29 Japan Pavilion.
On November 18 (Monday), LIXIL took part in the "Seminar on Decarbonization of Buildings" hosted by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism at the Japan Pavilion, established by the government to promote Japan's technologies and initiatives to the world.
At the beginning of the seminar, Minister of the Environment Keiichiro Asao delivered the opening remarks, followed by multiple private companies and experts who introduced Japan's initiatives for decarbonizing buildings and the construction sector, as well as discussed measures to accelerate decarbonization in that sector.
LIXIL presented its advanced activities aimed at reducing both operational carbon and embodied carbon, explaining the utilization of recycled aluminum, which is particularly noted by industry experts for its contribution to the reduction of embodied carbon in buildings.
■ One of the world's leading recycled aluminum technologies: efforts toward decarbonization through resource circulation.
By promoting the use of recycled aluminum, emissions of CO₂ from the smelting of new aluminum, which uses a lot of electricity, can be reduced by 97% compared to the alternative. Our circular low-carbon aluminum "PremiAL R100", which boasts a 100% usage ratio of recycled aluminum, has been highly evaluated for its positive impact on the environment and is being adopted not only in various facilities and stores but also in industries outside the architecture sector. Furthermore, the "PremiAL" series has begun production overseas and is being adopted both domestically and internationally, aiming to contribute to sustainable development in a world undergoing urbanization.
In addition, as part of our innovations promoting resource circulation, we introduced the circular material "revia", which utilizes waste plastics.

■Sponsorship of the largest private event at COP29 'Sustainable Innovation Forum'
The Sustainable Innovation Forum was held as an official related event of COP29 from November 13 (Wednesday) to 14 (Thursday) in 2024. It is a multi-stakeholder sustainability summit attended by global leaders from various fields including economy, government, academia, and multinational organizations. Through sponsorship of this event, LIXIL's eco-friendly concept and use of recycled aluminum were featured in video content and interview articles.

LIXIL is confident that innovative solutions such as the "PremiAL" series and "revia" can create an impact on the environment and society. Collaboration with stakeholders is essential for this.
This time, by participating in COP29, the largest and most important global call to action for climate change in the international community, LIXIL aims to strengthen cooperative relationships through proposals based on solid technology and solutions, while also contributing to the further development of the decarbonization of the construction industry.

■ LIXIL's Environmental Strategy
LIXIL's environmental strategy, "Water Conservation and Environmental Protection," aims to contribute to improving the global environment with the environmental vision 2050, "Zero Carbon and Circular Living." It establishes three key areas of focus: "Mitigation and Adaptation through Climate Change Countermeasures," "Pursuit of Water Sustainability," and "Promotion of Resource Circulation." The company is committed to activities at production bases, business locations, and sales points under the "Business Processes," interactions with users and business partners, providing innovative technological products and their entire lifecycle through its "Value Chain," and creating value by capturing the future living, society, and environment in "Expanded Impact."
For FYE2023, LIXIL has added "Integration of Environmental Strategy into Business Strategy" as a top management priority, accelerating its activities. In FYE2024, LIXIL became the first company in the Japanese building materials industry to obtain SBT Net Zero certification for its long-term goal of "Net Zero CO2 Emissions by 2050" (base year: FY2019).
