CECO Environmental Insiders Added US$1.53m Of Stock To Their Holdings

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 27 20:19

Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in CECO Environmental Corp. (NASDAQ:CECO) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At CECO Environmental

The Independent Director Richard Wallman made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$989k worth of shares at a price of US$19.78 each. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$32.44), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 71.50k shares worth US$1.5m. On the other hand they divested 14.50k shares, for US$306k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by CECO Environmental insiders. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that CECO Environmental insiders own 9.7% of the company, worth about US$112m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
