Midday: KLCI Opens Higher But Retreats Nearly 1.7 Points

At midday, Malaysian stock exchange's benchmark index dropped 1.65 points to 1,602.60 points, from Wednesday's close of 1,604.25 points.

This morning, the key index traded 2.07 points higher during the opening session. However, as at 9:10am, the index dropped 1.73 points to 1,602.25 points.

Around midday, Notion Vtec Bhd, Main board's technology listing, was one of the most traded counters registering a volume of nearly 27.4 million1 units/shares, rising five sen to RM1.25, followed by YNH Property Bhd which advanced half a sen to RM0.665 on a turnover of over 17.4 million2 units/shares.

Other midday active stocks included Genetec Technology Bhd added four sen to RM1.21 on a turnover of nearly 54.5 million3 units/shares, while Nationgate Holdings Bhd declined 26 sen to RM2.09 on a volume of nearly 44.1 million4 units/shares.

Foodstuff stocks dominated midday gainers' list. Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd advanced 1.08 sen to RM96.08, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd added 48 sen to RM30.92, and Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd rose 44 sen to RM27.90.

Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd was among top midday gainers, climbing 34 sen to RM20.84 on a turnover of 366,500 units/shares.

Midday decliners included Lysaght Galvanized Steel Bhd which shed five sen to RM1.25 on a turnover of nearly 27.4 million5, Harrisons Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd which trimmed 35 sen to RM8.35, and Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd which gave up 16 sen to RM23.84.
