Nippon Ham Co., Ltd.
Nippon Ham Group's Japan Clean Farm Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kamikita District, Aomori Prefecture, President: Yoaki Yoshihara) has installed solar photovoltaic technology on approximately 3.3 hectares of land in Nanporo Town, Sorachi District, Hokkaido, and will begin supplying electrical utilities to its own hog farming facility in Hokkaido from December 1 (Sunday). This initiative is the first step in Nippon Ham Group's challenge towards achieving a sustainable livestock industry and aims at a carbon neutrality farm.
The photovoltaic technology to be installed this time has a generation capacity of 2,600 kW, and by using the renewable energy generated here, it is planned to reduce CO2 emissions by about 1,000 tons annually across the company's hog farming facilities in Hokkaido. Furthermore, an agreement has been concluded with Bumpujapan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda, Tokyo; CEO: Pitak Teerathum Niti) regarding construction and operational management.
The Nippon Ham Group set greenhouse gas reduction targets, including CO2, in 2021 and is advancing its initiatives. Alongside promoting energy self-sufficiency and efficiency in energy use through photovoltaic technology, it is also considering the utilization of carbon credit related to livestock in the domestic livestock and agriculture sector in japan to address greenhouse gas emissions from livestock. Through this, aiming for sustainable hog farming, it continues to challenge the realization of a carbon neutrality farm with a target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2026.
*Carbon neutrality farm: A farm that has achieved net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases from Scope 1 and 2 fuel, electrical utilities, and livestock sources.
