The Maison celebrates its close connection to the art of photography with the publication of Chaumet. Photographer's Gaze (Chaumet. Regards de Photographes) by Citadelles & Mazenod, offering a choice of two collectible covers available in French, English and Simplified Chinese from 5 November 2024.
Maison Chaumet, with its avant-garde instinct, has seized on the power of the image to enhance its creation throughout its history. This has now resulted in a book that for the first time offers a photographic retrospective reproducing an exceptional set of press editorials from 1934 to 2020 showcasing Chaumet creation by great photographers including Henry Clarke, Guy Bourdin, Bettina Rheims and Richard Burbridge.
Chaumet. Photographer's Gaze also highlights some of the Maison's most emblematic orders in a colourful portfolio. Among these are two specifically commissioned series masterfully shot by Karim Sadli and Elizaveta Porodina.
At the end of the book, a special section presents an anthology of precious glass plates dating to the early 20th century, a fitting conclusion that pays tribute to the genesis of photography at Chaumet.
Three esteemed specialists in the photographic medium explore these close links as, over the course of the pages, the interpretations and insights of Carol Woolton, Sylvie Lécallier and Flora Triebel intersect to reveal Chaumet jewellery in a new light.
Authors of Chaumet. Photographer's Gaze:
Carol Woolton is a jewellery historian and was jewellery editor of British Vogue for over twenty years.
Sylvie Lécallier oversees the photography collection at the Palais Galliera – Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris.
Flora Triebel is the curator responsible for the 19th-century photography collection in the Department of Prints and Photography at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
