Chief Executive Officer of Modular Medical James Besser Buys 69% More Shares

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 2 18:33

Potential Modular Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ:MODD) shareholders may wish to note that the Chief Executive Officer, James Besser, recently bought US$169k worth of stock, paying US$1.69 for each share. That certainly has us anticipating the best, especially since they thusly increased their own holding by 69%, potentially signalling some real optimism.

Modular Medical Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by James Besser is the biggest insider purchase of Modular Medical shares that we've seen in the last year. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$1.70 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. The good news for Modular Medical share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

While Modular Medical insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership Of Modular Medical

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 8.5% of Modular Medical shares, worth about US$5.8m, according to our data. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Modular Medical Tell Us?

The recent insider purchase is heartening. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. While the overall levels of insider ownership are below what we'd like to see, the history of transactions imply that Modular Medical insiders are reasonably well aligned, and optimistic for the future. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. At Simply Wall St, we've found that Modular Medical has 4 warning signs (2 can't be ignored!) that deserve your attention before going any further with your analysis.
