The demand related to global political tensions has driven the increase in weapon sales.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), global arms sales by the top 100 military industry companies increased last year due to heightened demand driven by tensions such as those in Gaza and Russia-Ukraine. The sales of weapons and military services by these 100 companies reached 632 billion dollars in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%, rebounding after a decline in 2022. Revenues from arms sales increased across all regions, with significant growth observed in companies from Russia and the Middle East.

SIPRI military spending and weapons production researcher Lorenzo Scarazzato stated that this trend "may continue into 2024." He added that this data "does not fully reflect the scale of demand," and many companies appear "optimistic about future sales."

In 2023, among the top 100 military industry companies, 41 were from the usa, with weapon sales revenue reaching 317 billion dollars, accounting for half of the total revenue of the top companies, an increase of 2.5% compared to a year ago. Notably, due to challenges in the supply chain in 2023, global leaders in weapon production, lockheed martin (LMT.US) and rtx corp (RTX.US), experienced a decline in sales.

In europe, the total weapon revenue of 27 defense companies (excluding Russia) in 2023 was 133 billion dollars, an increase of 0.2%. This is because most of these companies are handling old contracts, and the data does not reflect new orders. Two Russian companies in the top 100 saw their arms sales revenue grow by 40% in 2023, reaching around 25.5 billion dollars, while three Israeli companies had total revenue of 13.6 billion dollars.

In asia and oceania, the arms sales revenue of 23 companies was 136 billion dollars, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%, driven primarily by companies from south korea and japan. In 2023, the arms sales revenue of nine chinese companies reached 103 billion dollars, a year-on-year increase of 0.7%, the smallest growth since 2019.
