Youran Agriculture's digital grassland practices have been selected as a case study by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
Recently, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) officially released a report on "Digital Agriculture and Sustainable Transformation of Food Systems" to the global audience. Youran Agriculture (09858) was successfully selected as the only typical case in China's grass industry with its "Technology Empowering Smart Grassland".
This project is a collaboration between the United Nations FAO and domestic institutions, focusing on the four areas of digital agriculture, precision agriculture, sustainable agriculture, and healthy diets. It summarizes and analyzes the good innovative practices and excellent methods in the transformation of China's grain agriculture system and rural revitalization development, sharing China's innovative transformation experiences in the grain system with other developing countries through the FAO's multilateral platform.
As China's largest alfalfa supplier, Youran Agriculture has established 15 grassland bases nationwide, with a grass planting area of 0.24 million mu. Among them, in the Grass Capital of China, Chifeng, Alukerqin Banner, there is a high-quality alfalfa planting base covering 0.055 million mu, creating a development model of "integrated planting and breeding" and a three-tier supply model of "alfalfa + fodder oats + silage corn," providing solid support for the livestock industry.
For many years, Youran Agriculture has been researching high-yield, high-quality, and high-conversion-rate grass breeding and planting technologies. Its subsidiary Yihe Green Jin Grassland Business took advantage of digital agriculture, precision agriculture, and sustainable agriculture management, successfully being selected as a key case by the FAO, providing valuable experience for the innovative transformation of China's agricultural system.
In terms of digital and precision agriculture management, Youran Agriculture has independently developed the "Smart Grass Cloud" grass planting information system platform, achieving smart grassland management. Micro weather stations at grassland bases monitor weather conditions in real time and provide accurate rainfall forecasts for 48 hours; drones are used for plant protection and intelligent irrigation systems ensure effective prevention and control of pests and diseases as well as high-efficient use of water and fertilizer, achieving precise management throughout the entire growth period of the grass. The use of these digital system devices has greatly improved field operation efficiency, with precise and high-efficient management implemented in every aspect of grass planting. Simultaneously, Youran Agriculture has mastered the "five core technologies" of grass, which include the leading implementation of integrated planting and breeding techniques and models in the country; the creation and social promotion of a standard operating procedure (SOP) management system for grass planting; the development of cold-resistant genetic technologies for alfalfa, and excellent alfalfa germplasm hybrid technologies, mastering the industry's leading grass breeding and planting technologies; independently establishing a wintering system for alfalfa; and pioneering alfalfa packaging and silage production technology in the country, providing quality rough fodder for the livestock industry. In the first half of 2024, nearly 60% of the quality alfalfa produced at Youran Agriculture's grass production bases reached grade A or above, while the protein ratio in alfalfa silage reached over 85%.

In sustainable agriculture management, Youran Pastoral Industry has independently developed a full-mix biogas anaerobic fermentation process and a fully automated asia vets aerobic fermentation process, achieving harmless treatment of all manure. Meanwhile, the solid portion is harmlessly processed and used as high-quality bedding material, while the liquid portion is fermented into organic fertilizer and returned to the land, increasing soil organic matter and providing resource support for high-quality forage planting. By integrating the "crop-livestock combination" into eco-circular agriculture, the resource utilization of manure is realized under the principles of "reduction, reuse, and resource utilization," creating a green agriculture circular economy with "low consumption, low emissions, and high efficiency." At the same time, through the use of no-till carbon fixation technology, soil organic carbon content is effectively increased by 15%-20%, reducing the fuel consumption of large machinery tilling the land, lowering soil erosion, and enhancing carbon sinks in agriculture and forestry for carbon reduction.
It is worth mentioning that the development achievements of Youran Pastoral Industry in the "sustainable" field have received authoritative recognition from multiple international institutions. In 2022, Youran Pastoral Industry successfully joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), marking the livestock industry leader's debut on the international stage; in 2024, thanks to its outstanding performance in the s&p global sustainability assessment (CSA), Youran Pastoral Industry was successfully included in the "Sustainable Development Yearbook (China Version) 2024" and was recognized as the only enterprise in the food industry to receive the "Best Industry Progress Award."
