3REN Berhad has inked a memorandum of understanding with Invest-In-Penang Berhad to collaborate on the Penang Silicon Design @5km+ initiative to promote growth in the semiconductor and integrated circuit design sectors.

The project InvestPenang will build an interconnected ecosystem for IC designs and technology enterprises within a 5km radius from the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, offering attractive incentive packages to spearhead this initiative. 3REN will utilise the incentive packages provided to conduct IC design and development-related activities and fulfill relevant roles in the value chain. It will support the development, operation, and success of this initiative while growing its capabilities to cater to the ever-evolving industry demand for semiconductors and ICs.

The initiative will encompasses three key components namely the Penang IC Design & Digital Park, offering office space to create vibrant ecosystems to attract global and local IC design players to invest in Penang by establishing a centralised hub with state-of-the-art facilities; the Penang Chip Design Academy, focussing on training skilled talent in digital chip design and prototyping; and the Silicon Research & Incubation Space, offering a one-stop centre to develop ideas and prepare for new products.

3REN Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer, Koh Dim Kuan said, "Being one of the five local companies to sign an MOU with InvestPenang is a recognition to 3REN's positioning in the semiconductor value chain, particularly in IC design and development. Apart from providing product engineering services encompassing post-silicon validation, software development, and NPI services, our Group is broadening the scope of services to meet the evolving demands of the industry by expanding into IC package design and embedded design.

This initiative also gives us the advantage of proximity to our existing and potential customers, including global giants such as Alchip, AMD Global Services, Celestica, Microsoft, and Monolithic Power Systems, which will house their new IC design and R&D operations at the Penang IC Design & Digital Park. We are excited to be part of this journey and look forward to collectively contributing towards Penang's future success within the global semiconductor landscape," he added.
