This award is a system established by the Japan Logistics Association to publicly announce and honor excellent businesses engaged in modal shift initiatives, and the "Excellent Modal Shift Business Operator Award" (Collaboration Division) is granted to businesses that have achieved particularly outstanding results among those that have built a modal shift framework that widely combines cargo, transportation segments, transportation modes, etc., through the collaboration of shippers, logistics operators, and others.
In this award, the collaboration between our company, Ajinomoto Foods Co., Inc., and the logistics operator F-LINE Co., Inc., as well as shipping companies, has been recognized for achieving a complete modal shift in the main transport segment, contributing to solving the logistics issue of truck driver shortages and reducing environmental impact.
The Ajinomoto Group has been tackling issues such as driver shortages and environmental burdens in the logistics industry from an early stage, conducting modal shift activities to convert transportation methods of products from trucking and other automobile transportation to less environmentally burdensome methods such as railroads and marine transport. The modal shift rate for our national trunk transportation exceeding 500 km from April to September 2024 is about 97%.
In this initiative, the modal shift that the company has been promoting in the major transport section connecting the Ajinomoto Co., Inc. Kawasaki Plant and the company's Kawasaki Logistics Center (both in Kanagawa Prefecture) with the F-LINE Co., Ltd. Nishinomiya Logistics Center (Hyogo Prefecture) was also extended to shipments from Ajinomoto Co., Inc. By increasing the number of trains and ships, complete modal shift is expected to be achieved by April 2024, enabling Ajinomoto Co., Inc. to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 80% compared to the previous year.
