Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka City, President: Osamu Inoue, hereinafter referred to as "the Company") completed the installation of the 230kV AC transmission cable between Cebu Island and Bohol Island, which was awarded by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, in September 2024.
This project involves the laying of a 230kV AC underwater cable (1,200MW/2 circuits) over a total length of 27 km between Cebu Island and Bohol Island, and it serves as an important infrastructure development to alleviate the power supply and demand pressures on Bohol Island due to the recent increase in tourists and to strengthen the reliability of the overall electrical utilities grid in the Region.
The Company undertook the design, manufacturing, and installation work of the system, including the 230kV AC XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) insulated cable, and completed the construction in deep sea, where advanced technology is particularly required, on schedule. This project is expected to enable stable and efficient Energy supply to the entire Region and significantly contribute to the development of the local area.
