Green Steel *1 (hereinafter referred to as Green Steel) 'NSCarbolex Neutral' provided by Nippon Steel Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Nippon Steel) has been adopted for the first time by Hitachi Ltd Sponsored ADR (hereinafter referred to as Hitachi) and will be used as non-oriented electrical steel sheets for Electric Machines manufactured by Hitachi Industrial Products, Ltd.
The Hitachi Group aims to achieve a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by fiscal 2030 (compared to fiscal 2010) and Carbon Neutrality by fiscal 2050 as part of its long-term environmental goal 'Hitachi Environmental Innovation 2050' through the value chain, and our company is promoting collaborative activities toward these goals as its procurement partner. As part of these activities, we evaluated the value of 'NSCarbolex Neutral' which contributes to reducing CO2 emissions in our customers' Scope 3.
Nippon Steel will continue to contribute to our customers' decarbonization efforts and increased competitiveness by providing Green Steel 'NSCarbolex Neutral', ultimately contributing to the realization of a Carbon Neutral society.
*1: Green steel applying the mass balance method
It is a steel product that pools the amount of CO2 and other GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions reduced through additional reduction projects implemented by steel manufacturers within the organization and allocates that reduction amount to any of its products along with a certificate, in compliance with the 'Guideline for Green Steel Applying the Mass Balance Method' established by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation *2. Customers who purchase Green Steel applying the mass balance method can interpret it as a deduction from Scope 3 emissions in their own GHG protocols.
