TenTorrent and Hyundai-backed BOS Semiconductors are jointly launching artificial intelligence chips designed specifically for in-vehicle infotainment systems and autonomous driving.

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on Thursday, Canadian startup TenTorrent and Korean chip startup BOS Semiconductors supported by Hyundai Motor Group jointly launched artificial intelligence (AI) chips designed specifically for in-vehicle infotainment systems and autonomous driving. This innovation marks a surge in demand for AI chips capable of handling complex, high-performance workloads as cars increasingly evolve into “computers on wheels.”

These two chips were hailed by Park Jae-hong, the founder of BOS Semiconductors, as the industry's first “AI accelerator for small automotive chips.” He revealed that this chip has a unique design and can combine small chips into a large system like LEGO bricks, providing automakers with unprecedented customization flexibility to meet their specific needs and effectively reduce costs through targeted feature updates.

According to Park Jae-hong, BOS is in talks with an undisclosed German car manufacturer to supply a product called “Eagle-N.” The product is scheduled to be publicly displayed for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and is expected to be officially put into production by the end of 2026.

Park Jae-hong also said that BOS Semiconductors aims to challenge industry giants such as Qualcomm (QCOM.US) and open up new market segments in the automotive AI chip field. It is worth mentioning that Park Jae-hong himself worked at Samsung Electronics and participated in chip development projects for Apple (AAPL.US) and Tesla (TSLA.US), and the “Eagle-N” chip will be produced using Samsung's advanced 5nm manufacturing process.

Tenstorrent, led by Jim Keller, a former Apple chip designer and Tesla's autonomous driving chip project leader, also played a key role in this partnership. Tenstorrent has attracted support from heavyweight investors such as Hyundai Motor Group, Samsung, and the Jeff Bezos Family Finance Office.
