国际能源署署长:地热适合为数据中心提供其所需的大量的稳定能源

The Director of the International Energy Agency: Geothermal energy is suitable for providing the large amount of stable Energy required by Datacenters.

Global Market Report ·  Dec 13 04:32

The International Energy Agency stated on Friday that the shale drilling technology, which has led to a surge in Oil & Gas production, has also stimulated the development of Geothermal Energy, which theoretically can provide a stable source of electrical power equivalent to the total demand of India and the USA.

Fatih Birol, the director of the International Energy Agency, stated after the agency released its first Geothermal Energy report that Geothermal Energy is well-suited to provide the large amount of stable energy required by Datacenters. Birol mentioned: "One of the demands for Geothermal Energy is the demand for electrical utilities from Datacenters. The demand from Datacenters in the USA is significant; they require power around the clock, making Geothermal Energy very suitable."

Birol stated that unlike Wind Power and CECEP Solar Energy, Geothermal Energy can be a continuous source of Energy, but it is still in its infancy and requires substantial investment and support from the government. The incoming Trump administration indicated it would promote more Oil & Gas drilling and aims to cut back on green Energy initiatives, but Birol believes there is no reason not to increase the use of Geothermal Energy.

Data from the International Energy Agency indicates that by 2050, global geothermal heating could increase to 800 GW, accounting for 15% of global demand growth, with an annual output equivalent to the current total demand of the USA and India. The report by the International Energy Agency states that global investment needs to exceed 1 trillion dollars by 2035 and exceed 2.8 trillion dollars by 2050, with approximately 75% needing to be invested in power generation facilities.
