Wall Street expects Micron's revenue for this quarter to reach 8.72 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 84%.

According to the Zhithong Finance APP, Micron Technology (MU.US), the largest storage chip manufacturer in the USA, will announce its first quarter earnings for fiscal year 2025 after the Post-Market Trading on Wednesday (early morning of December 19, Beijing time). Wall Street expects Micron's revenue for this quarter to reach 8.72 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 84%, with profits reaching 1.84 billion USD, which translates to an EPS of 1.58 USD, compared to a loss of 1.23 billion USD, or an EPS loss of 1.12 USD in the same period last year.

The upcycle of the chip industry has quietly begun.

Micron's last quarter performance and outlook data show that Micron has already passed the worst period of the entire chip industry cycle and is returning to a profitability model, especially helped by the surge in spending on AI. Micron's CEO Sanjay Mehrotra pointed out that the demand for high-end storage chips used in datacenters to develop AI Software/applications is unusually strong.

Analysts expect revenue from the DRAM business this quarter to reach 5.92 billion USD, which may grow by 72.9% year-on-year; NAND business revenue is expected to reach 2.6 billion USD, with a year-on-year growth of as much as 111.5%.

Data released by Counterpoint shows that in the third quarter of 2024, global semiconductor industry revenues increased by 17% year-on-year, reaching 158.2 billion USD, mainly driven by the demand for AI technologies and the recovery of the memory industry. NVIDIA and AMD have achieved significant growth in the AI field and have become major beneficiaries. This trend is expected to continue into the fourth quarter of 2024, especially driven by the launch of new products.

A federal grant of 6 billion USD was obtained.

A week before the earnings announcement, Micron Technology received up to $6.165 billion in federal government grants to produce semiconductors in the USA in accordance with the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act.

The USA Department of Commerce stated that this funding will support Micron's "twenty-year vision," which includes investing approximately $100 billion in New York and $25 billion in Idaho to establish new factories and create around 20,000 jobs.
