OpenAI announced at an event on Monday that the product, called ChatGPT Search, will be open to all users who log in to the company's mobile app and website using a chatbot account. OpenAI has previously opened up search options to paid users.
Following the success of ChatGPT in late 2022, tech companies are racing to incorporate generative artificial intelligence into a range of services, including online search. OpenAI supporters Microsoft and Google have completely revamped their search products to include more conversational AI capabilities.
As part of the expansion launch, OpenAI users will be able to set the feature as the default search engine via a web browser, the company said. OpenAI also showcased a new option for users to ask questions and chat bots to answer them orally.
The extended search product was launched on the eighth day of the startup's stated 12-day live product event. OpenAI used the launch to launch a new, more expensive ChatGPT Pro subscription option, and began rolling out an AI video generation tool called Sora.
