Related reports show that the Gree chip factory is a Silicon Carbide chip factory with an investment of nearly 10 billion yuan, making it the second fully automated Third-generation Semiconductors chip factory globally and the first in Asia.
In fact, Gree has long been laying out its strategy in the chip sector. In 2012, the first domestically produced IPM power module production line was built, and in 2018, Zhuhai Zero Boundary Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd. was established; that same year, Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai jointly established Hunan Guoxin Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. with Chongqing Changan Automobile and seven other companies; in 2019, it invested 3 billion yuan to acquire shares in Wingtech Technology and participate in the acquisition of Nexperia. In 2022, Gree Electronic Component Co., Ltd. was established, forming a complete Industry Chain layout in the chip field.
The Gree Electronic Components project began construction at the end of 2022, planned to cover an area of 600 acres, including the chip factory, packaging and testing factory, as well as supporting semiconductor testing centers and super energy stations.
It is noteworthy that the Gree chip factory took a total of 388 days from the start of construction to the product line being operational, achieving the fastest construction and line startup speed in the industry.
