Mercari, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Shintaro Yamada, hereinafter referred to as Mercari) announces the conclusion of a business partnership with Zero, Inc. (Headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Toshihiro Takahashi, hereinafter referred to as Zero) to strengthen the used car trade on "Mercari" by December 2024. Through this business partnership, starting today, we will begin providing "Entrust Car Trade" where specialized companies (Zero) handle paperwork, vehicle inspection, and delivery in certain regions.
This will be gradually applied to customers using "Mercari" starting today.
Background
The used car sales market is expanding in response to the popularity of used cars, reaching a record high of 3.9 trillion yen in fiscal year 2022. However, despite various apps and web services available for individual transactions of used cars, the adoption rate remains low.
Regarding this background, a survey conducted on customers using "Mercari" revealed that among concerns about personal car transactions, 57.2% of customers expressed anxiety about whether "the buyer will complete the name change" when selling a car, and 51.9% were worried that "the information posted is correct" when buying a car, indicating that many customers feel uneasy about trading with individuals.
Zero, which is entering into this business partnership, provides a wide range of transportation services for imported cars, used cars, and special vehicles nationwide based on years of expertise in new car transportation, offering high-value-added services such as vehicle maintenance and transportation.
To remove the hurdles for listing and purchasing Autos in private transactions, we aim to create an environment where customers can easily and safely engage in Trade. We have decided to start offering 'Delegated Auto Trade' in certain Regions.
