On Tuesday, December 17, Marc Benioff, CEO of cloud software company Salesforce, said at a company event in San Francisco that the company will be hiring 2,000 employees to sell AI agent software — a month ago, the company's plan was only to hire 1,000 people. Benioff said:

“We're working to add a few thousand sales staff to help sell these products, and we've received 9,000 applications, five times the number of applications we've opened, which is amazing.”

Benioff also said that the company's second-generation Agentforce technology will be offered to customers starting in February 2025. This technology is used to create and operate AI agents that can handle complex issues in Salesforce's Slack communication application.

Currently, Salesforce's homepage has shown an experimental AI agent that can answer users' inquiries about the company's products. Customers who need help can directly access a chat-based help page. The page has about 32,000 conversations per week, of which about 5,000 conversations need to be upgraded to manual customer service. Previously, this number was 10,000.

On the other side, Microsoft has already started selling Copilot, but Benioff said that if you check Microsoft's website and check out their automated customer support — “You can't find it.”

In response, Jared Spataro, Microsoft AI's chief marketing officer, responded in a statement:

“It's interesting to say Benioff. Microsoft has one of the largest customer support teams in the world. In customer service, Copilot helped customers resolve issues 11.5% faster. Our sales team is also seeing a real impact, increasing average revenue per sales person by 9.4% and saving time to focus on strategic, value-driven work.”
