The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) said on Wednesday that Netflix has fined the company 4.75 million euros (about 4.98 million dollars) for not properly informing customers about the use of personal data between 2018 and 2020.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) said on Wednesday that Netflix (NFLX.US) had fined the company 4.75 million euros (about 4.98 million US dollars) because it did not properly inform customers about the use of personal data between 2018 and 2020.
The DPA said in a statement that the investigation, which began in 2019, showed that “Netflix did not clearly inform customers about the specific way it handles this data in its privacy statement.” DPA added: “Additionally, when customers asked what data Netflix collected about them, they didn't get enough information. This is a violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).”
However, Netflix objected to the fine. According to reports, the company says it has updated its privacy statement and improved the provision of information.
