Further Weakness as Rendong Holdings (SZSE:002647) Drops 11% This Week, Taking Five-year Losses to 68%

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 20, 2024 09:30

It is doubtless a positive to see that the Rendong Holdings Co., Ltd. (SZSE:002647) share price has gained some 50% in the last three months. But that is little comfort to those holding over the last half decade, sitting on a big loss. In fact, the share price has declined rather badly, down some 68% in that time. So is the recent increase sufficient to restore confidence in the stock? Not yet. But it could be that the fall was overdone.

After losing 11% this past week, it's worth investigating the company's fundamentals to see what we can infer from past performance.

Because Rendong Holdings made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

In the last five years Rendong Holdings saw its revenue shrink by 5.5% per year. That's not what investors generally want to see. With neither profit nor revenue growth, the loss of 11% per year doesn't really surprise us. The chance of imminent investor enthusiasm for this stock seems slimmer than Louise Brooks. Ultimately, it may be worth watching - should revenue pick up, the share price might follow.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market gained around 14% in the last year, Rendong Holdings shareholders lost 9.9%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Unfortunately, longer term shareholders are suffering worse, given the loss of 11% doled out over the last five years. We would want clear information suggesting the company will grow, before taking the view that the share price will stabilize. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Rendong Holdings better, we need to consider many other factors.
