Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd.
Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. (President: Keita Kato, hereinafter referred to as "Sekisui Chemical") has officially launched its proprietary MI application "RASIN" to promote Materials Informatics (hereinafter referred to as "MI") in material development.
With the MI application "RASIN", researchers can efficiently discover material properties and insights in a short period using MI technology. This enhances the efficiency and quality of material development by leveraging the Sekisui Chemical Group's expertise and achievements in material development, aiming to establish a data-driven materials development foundation towards a sustainable society.
※RASIN (Rashin): An abbreviation for R&D Accelerator for SEKISUI's Innovative Notions, this app is intended to serve as a compass for research and development.
1. Background of Development
MI is an initiative to streamline materials development using informatics techniques such as statistical analysis. Historically, material development relied heavily on researchers' experience and intuition, requiring a very long time and significant costs to reach practical application. Meanwhile, due to market pressures such as the shortening of product life cycles and resource constraints, the demands for materials development have become diverse and sophisticated, leading to a global intensification of efforts towards MI.
Sekisui Chemical is pursuing innovative materials development using MI with support from a specialized MI department as part of its initiatives to achieve "Vision 2030", which aims for the realization of a sustainable society alongside the sustainable growth of the company. As a result, they have achieved speed and advancement in the development of various new materials. Additionally, they have provided educational programs for researchers outside the MI specialized department and promoted initiatives for autonomous MI utilization in each department and its expansion throughout the company.
The newly developed unique MI application "RASIN" enables all researchers and developers to utilize the techniques accumulated by the MI specialized department. The deployment of "RASIN" within the Sekisui Chemical Group aims to further enhance efficiency and sophistication in material development, accelerating innovation creation across the entire Sekisui Chemical Group.
2. Features of the MI Application "RASIN"
① A completely in-house developed no-code application that does not require programming skills.
The analysis know-how accumulated by Sekisui Chemical's MI specialized department has been consolidated and developed into a no-code application that does not require programming skills. The MI specialized department has been promoting the utilization of MI in material development areas within the Sekisui Chemical Group such as films, composite materials, and catalysts, with many products already on the market. This proven development method can now be immediately utilized by researchers and developers in the field.
② User education linked with a talent development program.
A new education program to learn MI technology using the MI application "RASIN" has been introduced. By eliminating the time spent on programming education and concentrating on both MI theory and practice, researchers and developers can now utilize MI in material development within a short period.
③ A support system that allows for learning through practical experience.
A support system has been established which includes a point of contact for consulting with experts, discussing analysis results, and improvement methods when utilizing MI in material development. This will continuously support the deepening and advancement of MI techniques for researchers and developers.
3. Future Developments
Further functions will be introduced aimed at researchers and developers who have deepened their understanding of MI technology through the use of the MI application "RASIN", and more specialized MI technology education programs will be provided to further advance the utilization of MI technology within the Sekisui Chemical Group.
