There will be no electricity tariff hike for users in Peninsular Malaysia with the implementation of the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through mechanism from January 1 to June 30 next year, reported Selangor Journal on Dec 21 based on Bernama sources.

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry said the government decided on December 13 to ensure domestic consumers remain protected through the implementation of targeted electricity subsidies.

Overall, the amount of electricity subsidies from January to June 2025 that will be financed by the government will be RM2.388 billion, the ministry said in a statement.

The government also agreed to set the average basic electricity tariff rate in the peninsula for Tenaga Nasional Bhd under the framework of Incentive Based Regulation for the Fourth Regulatory period from January 1 to December 31, 2027.

Accordingly, the government through the Energy Commission is finalising a new tariff schedule that reflects the actual cost of electricity supply and is more competitive, while maintaining the balance of the energy trilemma (security, sustainability and affordability).

This new tariff schedule is proposed for implementation on July 1, involving a financial implication at about RM3.57 billion, funded by the government.
