
Maxis Bhd, Malaysia's leading integrated telco, has awarded scholarships to 16 students under its Maxis Scholarship Programme 2024, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
The scholarships were presented by Interim Chairman Datouk Hamidah Naziadin and Chief Executive Officer Goh Seow Eng during a ceremony attended by recipients and their families.
Open to Malaysian students enrolled in public and private universities in Malaysia and Singapore, the programme covers tuition fees, living expenses, internships, hands-on experience, and guaranteed job placements with Maxis upon graduation. This year, Maxis received 700 applications for the scholarship.
Maxis Chief People & Transformation Officer Patrick Er said, "At Maxis, we believe in developing people, especially our youths, to achieve their full potential. By empowering them with the right exposure and opportunities, we can develop future-ready Malaysian talents who can succeed as tomorrow's leaders. This is in line with our purpose of connecting people and businesses to a world of possibilities."
The scholarship initiative aligns with Maxis' efforts to advance the nation's digital agenda, fostering expertise in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud, data, and 5G. Since its inception in 2006, Maxis has awarded 346 scholarships.
Recipients expressed their gratitude and aspirations:
- Nur Amirah Syahirah, Computer Science student at Universiti Malaya, said, "The scholarship has lifted a tremendous weight off my shoulders, allowing me to focus on my academics, co-curricular activities, and building my career."
- Kirtanan A/L Mani Maran, AI student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, shared, "Being a Maxis Scholar gives me the opportunity to work with IT and AI specialists, which will further increase my knowledge and expertise in AI."
- Tee Zhi Yee, Accounting and Finance student at Sunway University, said, "This scholarship has fuelled my ambition to pursue a career in accounting and finance. I'm committed to working harder than ever to achieve my goals."
